Rubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq
Chair & TrusteeRubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq is Chair and Trustee of DEWA. Based in Surrey and of Pakistani heritage, she is passionate about empowering Deaf ethnic women to feel confident, valued, and equal in society. As Chair, she leads on fundraising, strategic planning, and management support to ensure DEWA continues to grow and serve its community effectively. Outside of DEWA, Rubbena enjoys visiting art galleries, walking, socialising with friends, and exploring art and history.

Manjula Shah
TrusteeManjula Shah is a Trustee of DEWA and a profoundly Deaf native BSL user. Born in India and raised in London, she brings extensive knowledge of Deaf identity, culture, and lived experience. Manjula supports the administration team, provides high-quality BSL translation, and contributes to events including International Women’s Day and cultural celebrations. She is dedicated to helping Deaf ethnic women build confidence and create positive change. Her interests include teaching BSL, exercising, walking, jogging, photography, exploring coffee spots, and cooking Asian recipes.

Business Support Officer

Asha Nauth
Business Support OfficerAsha Nauth is the Business Support Officer at DEWA, specialising in fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement. Born in London to British-Guyanese parents and profoundly Deaf, she communicates fluently in BSL and total communication. Asha has worked with organisations including Action on Hearing Loss, the Stroke Association, and DEWA, providing information, mentoring, and advocacy. She ensures smooth operations across policy development, finance, and stakeholder engagement. Outside of work, Asha enjoys exploring London, socialising, travelling, and creative crafts such as knitting, crochet, and embroidery.

Advocacy Project Officer

Fiona Barclay
Advocacy Project OfficerFiona Barclay is an Advocacy Project Officer at DEWA. Born in Ireland, she brings lived experience and a strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and equal rights. With over 20 years’ experience teaching art and craft in London, Fiona has supported children, adults, disabled people, and Deaf communities. At DEWA, she empowers Deaf women to build confidence, access support, and strengthen their voices. Outside of work, Fiona is a professional artist specialising in fine art printmaking and continues to run art workshops.

Eesha Tahir
Research OfficerEesha Tahir is a Research Officer at the Deaf Ethnic Women’s Association. Born in Pakistan, she brings lived experience and a deep commitment to women’s rights, empowerment, and feminism. As a woman from an ethnic minority background, Eesha is dedicated to amplifying the voices of her community and ensuring they are heard. At the Deaf Ethnic Women’s Association, she is leading a project exploring the barriers Deaf minoritised women face when accessing support for domestic violence. Through her work, Eesha highlights their lived experiences, aiming to drive meaningful and sustainable change. Outside of work, Eesha enjoys reading, particularly works by diverse authors from around the world, and she loves traveling to experience different cultures.

VolunteerSabia Younus is a volunteer with DEWA, based in London. Born in Pakistan, she supports Deaf women from ethnic communities through accessible, culturally informed services. Sabia promotes equal access through BSL and Deaf culture, delivering online wellbeing workshops to reduce isolation, build confidence, and strengthen social connections.

Simranjit Kaur
VolunteerSimmy Kaur is a volunteer with DEWA, based in Bournemouth and Kent, UK. She is a third-year Law student at Bournemouth University, graduating in 2026, with a strong interest in human rights and equality. Since joining DEWA in 2021, Simmy has supported projects promoting inclusion, accessibility, and empowerment for Deaf ethnic women, including workshops, research, and a podcast amplifying Deaf women’s voices. She is passionate about social justice and using advocacy to challenge inequality and improve access to services.

Vidhu Patel
VolunteerVidhu Patel is a volunteer with DEWA, based in Hertfordshire. She supports women’s empowerment through DEWA, helping to create inclusive spaces and encourage participation. Vidhu works with young Deaf women aged 18–30, focusing on confidence-building and social connection, and contributes to DEWA’s podcast project. She is currently studying for an MA in Art Therapy and enjoys running, sports, and creating art in her free time.
